Tan Gim Ghe – Artist Biography

Tan Gim Ghe is a self-taught artist and photographer with no formal education in fine arts, who born in 1981 in Taiping, Malaysia, a charming small town known as "Rain Town" for its frequent rainfall. Taiping is renowned for its rich history, colonial architecture, and the scenic Taiping Lake Gardens, Malaysia’s first public garden, which serves as a major inspiration for Tan’s artwork. Many of his paintings beautifully capture the tranquility and timeless charm of the lake gardens.

From a young age, Tan had a deep passion for drawing, constantly doodling, exploring, and studying various artistic techniques. His artistic journey spans multiple mediums, including pencil sketching, colored pencils, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paint. Through years of dedication and experimentation, he has refined his craft, creating unique and expressive works that reflect his artistic vision.

Beyond painting, Tan is also passionate about photography, particularly bird photography. He has built an extensive collection of bird photographs featuring species found across Malaysia. His love for birds extends beyond photography—he also enjoys drawing various bird species, bringing them to life through his artwork. With a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife, Tan continues to explore and express his artistic vision through both painting and photography.
